BCA Training Policies

Training Registration Policy

Individuals wishing to attend BCA training must create a BCA training account to register for trainings. Accounts belong to the individual, and it is up to the individual to keep their information current. Should the individual change agencies or email, they will need to update their current account, or create a new training account (training staff will merge training history to the new account).

Registrations are manually reviewed by training staff to determine eligibility to attend, and are normally processed within two business days. See Payment Policy for delays due to missing payment.

Should an agency need to register on behalf of an individual, and are not able to access the account, contact training staff for assistance. If the individual is new to the agency, the agency will likely need to create a new account for the individual, using the individuals information.

Training Audience Policy

Pursuant to BCA Policy 1009, “The BCA Superintendent is statutorily required under MSS 626.848 to provide…training to peace officers in their powers and duties…”. The BCA makes every effort to provide high quality law enforcement training at a low cost to its partners. In order to create the best training value, individual eligibility to attend BCA provided training is limited to licensed peace officers and employees of governmental law enforcement and public safety agencies. The Director of Training must approve any exceptions to this policy.

Discrimination Policy

The BCA endeavors to provide training in an environment free of discrimination or prejudice. Acts or comments of discrimination or prejudice by faculty members, staff persons or students will not be tolerated. Complaints of inappropriate behavior based on race, gender, creed, age, color, religion, national origin, or marital status may be communicated in any form to any representative of the BCA. All complaints received will be handled in accordance with DPS Policy #1502. Any questions about this policy can be directed to the Director of Training.

BCA Canceled Training Policy

The BCA may cancel training if the minimum number of attendees is not reached. These notices will be sent no later than two weeks prior to start date if applicable. While we strive to allow as much cancellation notice as possible, there are times when we must cancel due to circumstances outside our control, such as weather, instructor conflicts, etc.

Classroom/Virtual Training Attendance Policy

Participants must have an approved registration on file to attend BCA training. For trainings with a registration fee, the fee must be paid before approval will be given. Those without BCA training approval will not be allowed to attend the training. Registered participants can review their training account to verify approved registrations under the ’Current Schedule’ tab.

Approved participants are required to attend the full training program. The agency of a no-show participant or a participant who fails to attend the full program without prior approval of absence will not receive a training credit or refund.

Classroom/Virtual Training Cancellation Policy

Attendee cancellations must be received five (5) full business days prior to the start date. Individuals who fail to do so will be responsible for the full course amount. Cancellations can be made through the individuals training account (through the ‘Current Schedule’ tab after login).

To transfer a registration to another individual, you must contact the training office prior to start date (the replacement must have a registration on file to qualify).

To keep the canceled payment on file as a credit, please contact us. Any credits not used within six months, or the end of the state’s fiscal year (June 30), will be refunded.

Online Training Policy

Participants are required to view the full training program for successful completion. Each registration covers the accreditation of one individual only. Due to the flexibility of online courses, participants assume the responsibility to complete the course on their own schedule. Training credit or refund will not be issued if participant does not complete or pass course.

Payment Policy

The BCA requires registration payment prior to training approval. Payment can be made by Visa, MasterCard, or Check (Warrant Checks are accepted). Credit card payment can be made at time of registration, or select Invoice to have another person enter credit card payment, or to pay by check. Once registration is entered, the individual will receive an automatic email with payment information and instructions. It is up to the individual to forward the email to the correct person at their agency for payment.

Payments must be received within 15 business days of registration (or two business days prior to start date) or the seat will be released.

Refund Policy

Refunds will be issued for cancellations that meet the cancellation policy. Payments made by credit card will be refunded to the same credit card used for payment, and a receipt sent to the email entered at time of payment. Payments made by check will be refunded via check. Refunds are generally processed bi-weekly.

Waitlist Registration Policy

Waitlist registrations will be available for all trainings once registration closes. Individuals will register for the waitlist, at which point they will be added to the waitlist for the training. The BCA does not charge for waitlist registrations.

Should a seat open, training staff will email the individual and their supervisor (based on date added to the waitlist) to alert them of the seat opening. If the individual is no longer able to attend, the seat will be offered to the next person on the list. If the individual is able to attend, the seat will be reserved for them while they complete any other actions needed before approval (such as registration payment).

Special Needs Policy

If you have special requirements while attending BCA training, i.e. food allergies, please let us know as far in advance of your class as possible. Food allergy information can be entered into the training account using the 'Update Details' tab.

Dress Code Policy

Business casual dress is recommended, unless otherwise instructed. T-shirts, shorts, ripped jeans or caps are not appropriate

Weapons Policy

Officers in uniform may carry exposed weapons. If in plain clothes and your weapon is exposed, a badge or identification must be visible. Gun lockers are available at the BCA during training for those wishing to use them.
