BCA Investigative Certificate

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is dedicated to providing innovative investigative training to law enforcement throughout the state of Minnesota who are responsible for investigating crimes in their jurisdictions. The Investigative Certificate will provide officers and investigators with the training and resources they need to investigate all cases.
This program is intended for sworn law enforcement who are responsible for investigations or are working towards a position where they will be investigating crimes. Those who have completed required and/or elective courses within the last two years may be eligible to apply those course completions to the series in order to receive their certificate. Conference requirement must be completed during the same year as program completion. Participants will receive their certificates upon successful completion of the program
PROGRAM ENROLLMENT
To enroll in this program, please complete the following brief form. This will allow us to track your progress and alert you when your requirements have been met. There is no enrollment fee or additional costs for completing this program.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
To earn this certificate, participants must complete all four required courses, one online course, one investigative conference, and two optional courses as described below. Use the 'How to Find Courses' tip to the right to find course availability and pricing.
Required courses:
  • Interview and Interrogation
  • BCA Crime Scene Course for Minnesota Law Enforcement
  • Search Warrants
  • Responding to Missing and Unidentified Persons Reports
Online courses:
  • Minnesota Crime Alert Network Training
Conferences (must attend one during the year certificate is issued):
  • MSANI Fall Conference
  • Missing Persons Conference
  • Death Investigations Conference
  • MSANI CAN-AM Conference
In addition, participants must choose two of the following:
  • Basic Narcotics (this course fulfills the Search Warrants requirement)
  • Advanced Narcotics
  • Basic Photography for the DSLR Camera
  • Forensic Science Partners
  • Predatory Offender Registration and Investigations
  • Basic Financial Crimes Investigations
