BCA Investigative Certificate
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is dedicated to providing quality investigative training and resources to law enforcement partners throughout the state of Minnesota who are responsible for investigating criminal cases. This program is intended for sworn law enforcement who are responsible for investigations or are working towards a position where they will be investigating criminal cases. Participants who successfully complete all seven requirements will receive the BCA Investigative Certificate.
Program Participation
To participate in this program you must be a sworn law enforcement officer. Use the application form to track your completed training requirements (listed below). All trainings must be completed within three years to earn this certificate. Participants can locate completed trainings under the Credits tab of their BCA training account.
Once all requirements have been met, submit completed form via email to bca.training@state.mn.us. The BCA will confirm the requirements have been met and issue the certificate.
Required courses (attend four):
- Basic Financial Crimes Investigations -OR- Predatory Offender Registration and Investigations
- Interview and Interrogation
- Search Warrants -OR- BCA Basic Narcotics Investigations
- Alerts – Crime, Missing, and Endangered (formerly Minnesota Crime Alert Certification, please register for this training via NexTest)
Conference (attend one):
- BCA Death and Missing Persons Investigations Conference
- MSANI CAN-AM Conference
- Sex Trafficking Investigation Conference
- Minnesota Financial Crimes Task Force Criminal Investigation Conference
Electives (attend two):
- Advanced Financial Crimes Investigations
- Basic Financial Crimes Investigations (if this training is used for your Required training above, it cannot be used as an elective)
- Basic Photography for the DSLR Camera
- BCA Crime Scene Course for Minnesota Law Enforcement
- BCA Basic Narcotics Investigations (if this training is used for your Required training above, it cannot be used as an elective)
- BCA Advanced Narcotics Investigations
- Human Trafficking Investigations (new)
- Predatory Offender Registration and Investigations (if this training is used for your Required training above, it cannot be used as an elective)

Great class! Great information! I learned a lot about proper photography and proper processing of the scene. The instructors are experts.
